Monica Chatmon Talks to GreenLexi About AI Prompt Engineering
GreenLexi LLC recently interviewed Monica Chatmon, a current student in the AI Prompt Engineering Course offered by Code Black Tech. AI Prompt Engineering allows you to craft effective prompts that guide AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot and more) to generate content, solve problems, and automate tasks. Skills learned on this course can be utilized in real-world projects. Ms. Chatmon is set to graduate in September 2025 and is already seeing the benefits of the course in her personal and professional life. Ms. Chatmon explains how she learned about AI Prompt Engineering, and her love of the course, one assignment at a time.
How did you hear about the AI Prompt Engineering Course? Actually, I learned about it through a friend. I was immediately intrigued by the idea of diving deeper into AI and how it can be applied to real-world goals.
What do you love most about the course? I love the hands-on experience—both in class and with homework assignments. Every assignment helps me build something that’s meaningful to me, whether it's a business idea or a personal passion. These aren’t just random tasks to check off for a grade. I’m actively working toward launching my website, writing my cookbook, and booking my first public speaking engagement—and the course is helping bring all of that to life. Ms. Chatmon explains the course does have its challenges.
Was the coursework what you expected?
The homework can be a lot. Balancing it with work and other responsibilities has definitely been challenging at times. But with each completed assignment, I grow more confident in my skills and knowledge as a blossoming AI Prompt Engineer. When I add this to my résumé, it’s not just a title—I know I’ll be able to speak to it and apply it in real-life situations. I’m learning that you only get out of this course what you’re willing to put into it. Ms. Chatmon explains who inspires her to keep it moving forward.
Who inspires you the most—and why? Viola Davis. So much of her story reminds me of my own. Many people who’ve gone through what we have didn’t survive it—but she did. She didn’t just survive; she thrived. She’s a beacon of strength, resilience, and brilliance. Every time I hear her speak or see her act, it reminds me that no one is going to put my light out. I don’t think she actually said that—but that’s what her personhood says to me. Here's a fun fact about Ms. Chatmon you didn't know.
What’s a fun fact people might not know about you? Well… I used to be a bouncer at a skating rink and a lab tech in a meat science lab!! So, what's next for you?
What’s next for you after graduation? I plan to continue using the skills I’ve gained to enhance my current role. At the same time, I’ll explore opportunities—inside and outside my organization—that are rooted in AI and tech. Personally, I’ll keep pushing forward on my website, cookbook, and motivational speaking goals.
